Project: Rejuvenating UX/UI: Democratic Community Voting

  • The "UX/UI Design and Development" module marked a transformative endeavor where our team undertook the task of improving the user experience and interface of Decidim's platform. Given the choice between enhancing specific features or overhauling the entire design and user journey, we selected a voting site tailored for Hammarkullen's community. The primary challenge lay in simplifying the overwhelming quantity of information and the intricate structure that hindered community engagement with vital content.

  • Focusing on a user-centric approach, we embarked on refining the Hammarkullen voting site. Our efforts addressed the wide age range of users, spanning from young children to the elderly. A key objective was to create an accessible platform catering to various demographic needs. Through comprehensive research and collaboration, we reimagined the user journey, optimizing the structure, and streamlining information dissemination.

The project not only rekindled my dormant coding skills but also provided an opportunity to fully code a mockup of the redesigned index page. Employing tools like FigJam, we realized a complete overhaul of the platform's design. This transformation enabled us to present a more intuitive and user-friendly experience to the platform's owners, Decidim.

  • Our collaborative efforts culminated in a complete redesign that resonated with Decidim's vision and mission. Presenting our enhanced UX/UI to the platform's owners elicited surprise and delight. The smoother user experience and streamlined interface we proposed were met with enthusiasm, with Decidim expressing their readiness to begin implementing our recommendations. This project exemplified the power of combining design finesse, coding prowess, and thorough user-centered thinking to create impactful solutions.
